Mis Poemas preferidos XXIX: "La rosa" de William Carlos Williams ( version original y traducida)

LA ROSA

La rosa es obsoleta
pero cada pétalo acaba en
un filo, la doble faceta
consolida las estriadas
columnas de aire — El filo
corta sin cortar
no encuentra — nada — se renueva
en metal o porcelana —

¿adónde? Acaba —

Pero si acaba
el principio comienza
así que captar rosas
supone una geometría —

Más afilada, nítida, más cortante
trazada en mayólica —
el plato roto
vidriado con un rosa

En algún lugar el sentido
transforma rosas de cobre
en rosas de acero —

La rosa tenía el peso el amor
pero el amor acaba — donde las rosas
Es al filo del
pétalo donde el amor aguarda

Tersa, trabajada para vencer
lo forzado — frágil
arrancada, húmeda, medio erguida
fría, precisa, rozando

Lo que

El lugar entre el filo
del pétalo y el

Del filo del pétalo empieza una línea
que, siendo de un acero
de finura infinita, con infinita
rigidez penetra
la Vía Láctea
sin contacto — alzándose
desde ahí  — sin colgar
ni empujar
—

La fragilidad de la flor
sin mella
penetra el espacio.

William Carlos Williams
from Spring and All (1923): "The rose is obsolete..."

The rose is obsolete
but each petal ends in
an edge, the double facet
cementing the grooved
columns of air--The edge
cuts without cutting
meets--nothing--renews
itself in metal or porcelain--
whither? It ends--
But if it ends
the start is begun
so that to engage roses
becomes a geometry--
Sharper, neater, more cutting
figured in majolica--
the broken plate
glazed with a rose
Somewhere the sense
makes copper roses
steel roses--
The rose carried weight of love
but love is at an end--of roses
It is at the edge of the
petal that love waits
Crisp, worked to defeat
laboredness--fragile
plucked, moist, half-raised
cold, precise, touching
What
The place between the petal's
edge and the
From the petal's edge a line starts
that being of steel
infinitely fine, infinitely
rigid penetrates
the Milky Way
without contact--lifting
from it--neither hanging
nor pushing--
The fragility of the flower
unbruised
penetrates space
